This Life Group season runs from September 15 – December 8, 2024.
Our sermon ended this week referencing Hebrews 4:16: “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” (NIV) Let’s take a look at two passages in Luke that help us recognize our area need and a proper response.
- Read Luke 18:18-30. The man who approached Jesus had a lot of good things going for him. Why were those good things not sufficient to inherit eternal life?
- How does Jesus’ response to this man demonstrate what is needed for eternal life?
- Peter’s interjection in v. 28 shows that Jesus’ response is challenging even to those who follow Jesus. Why would that be the case?
- Not long after this interaction in Luke 18, Jesus encounters Zacchaeus who seems to be dealing with similar issues. Read Luke 19:1-10. How are the two encounters (Luke 18 & Luke 19) similar? What is the need that Jesus can see in Zacchaeus?
- How does Zacchaeus respond to Jesus? What does Jesus mean when he says that salvation has come to this house?
- In the sermon this week it was stated that, “God’s mercy is an invitation to turn from wrong to right.” In what way do these two encounters invite you towards what is right through the mercy of Jesus?
