  1. Unnecessary Icebreaker: Should pumpkin spice be spoken of before Labor Day?
  2. Read Philippians 3:7-11. Here Paul talks about what he used to value as being garbage when compared to life in Jesus Christ. How easy is it to value the wrong things in this life? What is the problem when we value the wrong things?
  3. In verse 10, Paul speaks of wanting to know the power of the resurrection and the suffering that Christ experienced. What does he mean here?
  4. Compare what Paul says in verse 10 with the hymn in Philippians 2:5-11. How does the hymn show the power of the resurrection and work of Jesus Christ?
  5. In Philippians 3:12-14, Paul admits that we will not cross the finish line of becoming like Christ in this life, but we should run the race. Can you think of a time when you struggled to run the race? What stopped you and what got you back on track?
  6. Who has been a good model to you (past or present) of running the race well?
