This Life Group season runs from September 14-December 14, 2025.
- Take a look at the Apostles’ Creed (you could even recite it together if you like). Creeds are not comprehensive, they are typically written to emphasize key beliefs to counter false teaching. For our time, the year 2025, what is the most counter-cultural element that you see in the Apostles’ Creed?
- The line in the creed “the resurrection of the body” was likely one of the earliest parts of the creed as it developed from a baptismal formula (question and answer) to a formal creed. In 1 Corinthians 15:13-15, Paul notes that the resurrection of Jesus matters more than anything. Why is the resurrection of Jesus so important?
- Paul also notes that Jesus is the firstfruits of those who have died (1 Corinthians 15:23). What does he mean by firstfruits? What does that mean for those who know Jesus who have died before his final return?
- Let’s turn to John 11:17-44. In verses 25-26, Jesus makes a bold proclamation: I am the resurrection and the life! What does he mean by this?
- In verse 40, Jesus says that if you believe, you will see the glory of God. How did his followers get to see the glory of God? How have you seen the glory of God?
- Where do you find hope for today in the proclamation of the Creed: I believe in the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting?
Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried.
He descended into hades.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
