  1. Read Psalm 102, a personal lament. As you read through the Psalm, focus first on this: How does the Psalmist address God?
  2. What elements of God’s character stand out?
  3. Why would it matter for a lament to highlight God’s character?
  4. This Psalm has vivid imagery. What images of lament stand out to you most? In what ways do you resonate with the images the Psalmist uses?
  5. Verses 18 and 27-28 reference future generations. How important is it that children see their parents (and other adults) grieve and lament?
  6. Where do you find hope in this passage? What reason does the Psalmist have to look up to God in the midst of trials?
  7. Where do you see encouragement for your own life in this Psalm? How can you turn the language of this Psalm into a prayer for today?
