We just started the sermon series “Hard Sayings of Jesus.” Sometimes what makes the sayings “hard” is understanding them; sometimes what makes them “hard” is just living them. Let’s look at one of these sayings that is easy to understand but takes some work to live faithfully: Matthew 6:19-21.
- When it comes to stuff, are you a pack-rat or a de-clutterer? What is the determining factor on what you keep and what you throw/give away?
- In what ways do people tend to store up things in this life in ways that crowd out God?
- What does it look like to store up treasures in heaven?
- Have you ever seen people in your life demonstrate what it means to store up treasures in heaven? What have you learned from them?
- Read Colossians 2:1-8. What direction does this passage give you about what God values? How does this add to your understanding of what you should treasure in this life (and the one to come)?
